A men’s suit will never be as comfortable as a sweatshirt and sweatpants. On one hand, everyone realizes this, but on the other hand, during fittings, this is often a matter that requires additional discussion. In elegant men’s fashion, when we talk about ready-to-wear clothing, appearance rarely goes hand in hand with comfort. This problem is solved by ordering a custom-made suit. In today’s post, we present a beige flannel suit in a burgundy check with a waistcoat, which is a great example of a suit that is both elegant and comfortable at the same time.

What Do We Look for When Tailoring a Custom Jacket and Trousers?
We know how a jacket should fit, but we also know it cannot overly restrict movement. In custom tailoring, we have many tools at our disposal that allow us to find a compromise between comfort and appearance. Our professional advisors always ensure that the armhole is cut relatively high, so the jacket does not ride up with every movement of the arm. We add the necessary centimeters in the back to maintain essential ease, while carefully checking that it does not start creating unsightly fabric folds.
Custom trousers also offer an opportunity for our advisors. We can separately adjust the width of the front or back of the thighs and the trouser hem, and we can ensure the proper rise and seat curve. This ensures the trousers are elegantly fitted yet comfortable. Narrow legs will never be as comfortable as wide legs, but nothing stands in the way of finding a middle ground.

Beige Three-Piece Suit with a Burgundy Check: How to Wear It?
During our photo shoots in Como, we had no problem taking a short walk in the mountains wearing a suit. Of course, this would not be appropriate attire for a longer trek, but it serves as an example of a suit that can look very good while allowing for unexpected activities.
We focused on raising the armhole of the jacket right at the design stage, which allows you to move with freedom in the jacket. The shoulders feature soft construction without padding, increasing wearing comfort. The low-buttoning point ensures the jacket is tightest at the narrowest part of the waist, providing the necessary room for movement in the chest and back.

The trousers are appropriately wider in the thighs. Thanks to a high rise and pleats, the trousers practically do not restrict movement when squatting or sitting. They only taper from the knee down, which is a section that remains relatively stable during movement. The trouser legs are finished with 5 cm cuffs, which helps the crease drape properly.
Fabric for a Flannel Suit
An important aspect of custom-made men’s suits is the fabric. In this case, we used a beige flannel wool with a distinct burgundy check from the Italian manufacturer Ariston. Flannel is a wool that is brushed to create a raised nap. Furthermore, there are air pockets between the flannel fibers that help maintain the proper temperature. The material is soft and pleasant to the touch.
What Accessories to Choose for a Beige Checked Suit?
For our beige suit, we chose a brown tie made of silk grenadine. This fabric has a distinct weave resembling knitwear, which coordinates well with matte fabrics. With this combination, we did not want to introduce additional patterns, so we opted for a white shirt with elongated collar points, as well as burgundy tassel loafers made of full-grain leather.

Beneath the double-breasted waistcoat, there are button-on silk braces that coordinate well with the overall look. However, this accessory is only visible after removing two layers, so its purpose is to please the eye of the owner rather than outsiders. In the jacket, we used a silk lining featuring an artwork, which contrasts with the main fabric.
Is a Ready-to-Wear Men’s Suit Unsuitable for Tailoring Alterations?
If a man’s silhouette is relatively standard, a suit bought in a store can be adjusted to the body. However, this solution is a compromise, as we cannot overcome certain limitations. While we can try to adjust the leg width or the jacket width, we cannot change the height of the button or the armhole cut.
Tailoring alterations for trousers allow for significantly more flexibility, but even a master tailor will not be able to correct certain structural elements of how the trousers are made. A master tailor is available at each of our showrooms, and we have frequently reduced jackets or trousers by one or two sizes, but this essentially requires reconstructing the garment from scratch.
