The Humanistic Wedding Ceremony
A wedding surrounded by your closest loved ones, in the heart of nature, with a trusted celebrant presiding over self-written vows – sounds beautiful, doesn’t it? This is the essence of a humanistic wedding, a choice that has grown significantly in popularity among couples in recent years. We frequently receive inquiries about which groom’s suits we recommend for humanistic ceremonies, and we can guarantee that our consultants always have plenty of inspiring ideas.
To start with: a humanistic wedding does not automatically rule out formal, elegant attire. Such a ceremony can take place in a stunning estate, an elegant palace, or a manor house, where a classic navy blue wedding suit would be perfectly appropriate. The most important factor is consistency with the Bride’s gown; therefore, the humanistic nature of the wedding itself does not dictate the groom’s level of formality.
Beige Flannel Suit: A Stylish Alternative
Nevertheless, we encourage you to explore interesting alternatives to the standard navy suit, especially for boho and rustic weddings. While classic navy can be embellished with unique stitching or an informal cut, a fabric with a visible texture and a different hue will significantly enhance the overall aesthetic.
Flannel is an excellent choice if the wedding is held outside the peak summer heat. Even a lightweight flannel with its characteristic brushed nap is designed to retain body heat and block out chilly winds. Modern flannel fabrics are noticeably thinner than those known to our fathers or grandfathers. Because of this, they perform beautifully in early spring or autumn, often featuring in our projects for weddings by the lake or in the mountains.
How to Dress for a Wedding: Custom-Made Groom’s Attire
A made-to-measure suit made from this type of fabric can be much more versatile than it appears at first glance. We believe a wedding outfit shouldn’t be a one-time purchase. By choosing the right cut, you can easily extend the life of the suit by wearing the jacket and trousers as separates. This significantly increases the number of potential outfits in your wardrobe, as we always aim for a wedding suit to remain functional long after the big day.
With this in mind, we designed this beige suit with wide notch lapels, patch pockets, and minimal shoulder padding. The heavily rounded quarters at the bottom of the jacket allow it to be easily paired with more casual trousers in the future. Furthermore, flannel jackets are typically crafted with a full lining to prevent internal wear and ensure the garment drapes smoothly over the body, providing maximum comfort and a refined look.
The trousers follow our signature classic high-rise cut designed for suspenders, which is exceptionally flattering to the male silhouette. To emphasize the bespoke quality, we included an extended waistband with a two-button fastening and a single pleat for added comfort. The use of flapped back pockets helps lower the formality of the trousers, which is essential for this type of fabric. Additionally, we opted for jetted side pockets because they stay flat against the hips even with a slim fit, ensuring a clean and aesthetic line.
The Wedding Shirt and Tie
For any wedding, we recommend a white shirt. However, since the formality here is relaxed, we opted for an Oxford weave fabric. This characteristic basketweave adds a sporty touch and is famously easy to iron. To keep the palette neutral and cohesive, we chose an off-white tie. We completed the look with a silk pocket square featuring a classic work of art – one of our most popular accessory choices. Does a Wedding Suit Always Have to Be Navy Blue?
Based on our latest sessions, the answer is clear: a wedding suit does not have to be navy, but it must be consistent with the style of the event. We aren’t talking about matching your tie to the decorations or your shirt to the dress (remember: a wedding shirt should always be white!), but rather matching the level of formality. It would look quite jarring if the Groom wore a formal tuxedo while the Bride wore a light, ethereal boho-style dress. This balance is crucial when choosing your groom’s attire.
